10 Ways to Boost Your Health This Summer

Jul 1, 2021

Summertime can bring a less intensive schedule for most people, opening up plenty of free time to focus on one’s health. Introducing new ways to boost your well being is a great way to enjoy the relaxing days of summer. We at Discover Health have built a comprehensive list of great ways for people of all ages to promote your energy and well being. Enjoy!

Curate Physical Exercise

If you’re not in the regular habit of exercising, it’s easy to feel intimidated and shy away from the idea. The trick is simple! Find a type of exercise you actually enjoy. Running, swimming, yoga, and cycling are great exercise options. Curate within your comfort zone!

Obtain Healthy Eating Goals

Summertime can certainly be a time for delicious BBQ and cooling off with ice cream. You don’t necessarily need to deny yourself these treats if on a day to day basis you set some restrictions. Fruits and veggies are in prime season so take advantage!

Monitor Your Sleep Schedule

Quality rest is key to practicing good health. Summertime is a great time to hit the reset button on your sleep schedule. Having a routine before bed and after you wake up can really help promote your day to day energy, well being and mental health.

Control Stress

Use the slower pace of the summertime to your advantage. Try not to overwhelm yourself with mundane tasks, feeling like you can’t catch up. Keep in mind that the best way to get stuff done is one thing at a time and your stress levels will follow suit.

Exercise Your Mind

Keep those gears turning in that noggin of your’s. Whatever you may enjoy that stimulates your mind, attempt to do it daily. Whether it be a word puzzle, a creative endeavor or picking up a book, it’s important to keep your brain happily active.

Practice Proper Skin Care

There is nothing like a heavy dose of vitamin D in the summertime but keep those rays in check! Surely you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors in the summer. Make sure you’re properly protected with sunblock and try to find some shade when you can.

Stay Hydrated

This is so simple but extremely overlooked by many. Dehydration is one of the most common illnesses of the summer season. Drink plenty of water and keep in mind that it takes 12 to 24 hours for your body to take in its nutrients so plan ahead!

Moderate Your Alcohol Intake

If you’re gonna drink, don’t drink in excess. Especially with the higher risk of dehydration in the summer months, drinking copious amounts of alcohol can really hit the fast forward button to feeling pretty lousy, let alone the damage to your liver over time.

Introduce Breathing Exercises

This is something that could be part of your before bed/after waking routines we mentioned above. Simply taking a few minutes for rounds of deep breaths can help center your well being and prepare you for a good rest or start out your day.

Get Outdoors

Extremely easy to accomplish in the summertime, just go outside! Fresh air and vitamin D coursing through your body can really be uplifting and all around just good for the soul. Obviously, don’t push it if it’s too hot outside but get out as much as you can.
